âť“ What is a protective order in Maryland for protection against domestic violence?

A protective order is a court Order that protects victims of domestic violence from further abuse. Md Fam Law Code defines “abuse” as:

  1. an act that causes serious bodily harm;
  2. an act that places a person eligible for relief in fear of imminent serious bodily harm;
  3. assault in any degree;
  4. rape or sexual offense under § 3–303, § 3–304, § 3–307, or § 3–308 of the Criminal Law Article or attempted rape or sexual offense in any degree;
  5. false imprisonment;
  6. stalking under § 3–802 of the Criminal Law Article; or
  7. revenge porn under § 3–809 of the Criminal Law Article.

Protective Orders are Maryland’s version of restraining order, governed by Md. Code Fam. Law § 4-506. Kamkari Law helps survivors file, enforce, and defend protective orders with precision and compassion.
